The Oakland Hills are about 28 minutes from our Lafayette base through the Caldecott. We serve them for larger losses.
Steep ground, wildfire history, and a housing stock substantially rebuilt after 1991. Call +1 (201) 277-9344.
A neighborhood shaped by fire
The 1991 Oakland Hills firestorm destroyed thousands of homes, and the rebuilding that followed means a large share of the housing here dates from the 1990s — built to more modern standards, on the same steep lots.
The water damage consequences of that history run two ways. The newer construction means younger plumbing, better waterproofing detailing and, in many cases, engineered drainage designed with current standards in mind — genuinely better than a 1950s hillside house. But the 1990s builds are now thirty-odd years old, which puts their builder-grade fittings, water heaters and appliance connections squarely at replacement age.
Steep ground, and what it demands
These are some of the steepest residential lots in the Bay Area. That produces the whole hillside catalogue we deal with daily in Lamorinda, amplified:
- Substantial retained soil against below-grade and partially below-grade walls, with hydrostatic pressure whenever drainage fails.
- Engineered subsurface drainage that silts, collapses or blocks over thirty years, invisibly.
- Surface runoff arriving from a lot of ground above, concentrated by driveways and terracing.
- Slope stability, which after a very wet winter is a structural question rather than a water damage one. Movement, new cracking or a leaning retaining wall needs a geotechnical engineer first.
See flood cleanup and flooded basement and crawl space cleanup.
Wildfire zone water exposures
As across every high-hazard hillside community we serve, two exposures follow from fire risk: exterior defensible-space sprinkler systems that fail after eleven months of disuse and flood a wall assembly with nobody home, and fire suppression water that goes through ceilings and into crawl spaces at volumes routinely exceeding the fire damage.
The post-fire hydrology matters here too. Burnt slopes repel water for several seasons, so any fire above these properties materially raises runoff and debris-flow risk through the following winters. See storm damage cleanup.

Why Oakland Hills residents choose us
Every restoration company claims 24/7 and certification. These are the reasons that are specific to working in Oakland Hills.
Twenty-five minutes over the ridge
We take the hills work where scope and judgment matter. On a small live emergency an Oakland crew reaches you first.
Post-1991 rebuild stock has its own pattern
Much of the area was rebuilt at once after the firestorm. Those homes are now thirty-plus years old and their fittings, water heaters and supply lines are failing in the same window.
Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone work
Suppression water that exceeds the fire damage, ember-defense sprinkler failures, and burnt slopes shedding runoff for several seasons afterward. All three are jobs we take.
Steep lots mean the drainage is the story
Retained soil, aging perimeter drains and cut-and-fill terracing decide whether a storm is a nuisance or an intrusion. We look uphill before working downhill.

First question
Where is the water coming from, and can you get to the shutoff? That decides whether we talk you through it or send someone the 28 minutes to Oakland Hills first.

Oakland Hills water damage FAQs
Do you take small jobs in the Oakland Hills or only large losses?
We will always talk it through, but we would rather be useful than just booked. If water is running right now and the job is straightforward, an Oakland crew is twenty minutes closer and you should call them — getting the water off in the first hour matters more than who does it. Where the twenty-five minutes over the ridge is worth paying for is the complicated work: a mold investigation needing containment and clearance, a hillside drainage failure, or a scope that has been written far too thin.
Does the 1991 fire still affect water damage risk in the Oakland Hills?
Indirectly, through the housing stock. A large share of the Oakland Hills was rebuilt in the 1990s to more modern standards, which means better waterproofing detail and engineered drainage than a 1950s hillside house — genuinely lower risk in some respects. But those 1990s builds are now thirty-odd years old, so their builder-grade fittings, water heaters and appliance connections are squarely at replacement age.
My retaining wall is cracking after a wet winter. Is that urgent?
Treat it as a structural question before a water one. Blocked drainage builds hydrostatic pressure behind a wall, saturated hillside soil is extremely heavy, and the wall moves. On slopes this steep, bulging, tilting or significant new cracking needs a structural or geotechnical engineer before anyone does restoration work behind it. Safety first, drying second.
How does access affect the job up here?
Considerably. Steep switchback drives and narrow hill roads determine whether a truck-mounted extraction unit can reach the house or whether we run portables on long hose lays — which changes the crew size, the equipment and the time on site. Telling us about your access when you call means the right vehicle arrives first time rather than second.
